What Food Is Celery Found In?
Celery is used in a variety of foods and is often a hidden ingredient, or one that is difficult to distinguish in a prepared food or recipe. Celery spice, a potent allergen, is often used as a cheap way to flavour many foods.
Labelling
Since November 2005, food labelling laws ensure all pre-packed food sold in the UK and European Union (EU) clearly label if they contain celery or an ingredient containing celery. This is very helpful – just beware there may be some foods still on the shelves that were produced before November 2005.
You also need to be wary of food that has been imported from outside the UK and EU, as ‘flavourings’ or ‘spices’ may contain celery as an unlisted ingredient.
