Are GM Crops Grown In The UK?
In 2004 the UK government announced that no GM crops would be grown in Britain for the 'foreseeable future'. As a result no crops are currently being grown in this country, but there is no legal reason why companies won't be able to apply for a license to do so in the future.
There are very few GM products on sale in the UK and those that are on the shelves are clearly labelled.
Imported GM crops are often fed to farm animals. This is true of those farmed using conventional or free range methods. Organic farming standards, as set by the Soil Association, forbid the use of GM feed.
